Jazz vocalist and CBJC Board Member Steve Cromity is the Minister of Music/MoM at First Baptist Church of Crown Heights. Of his many duties as MoM, Steve coordinates the jazz vesper programs at this institution. He’s a proponent of straight-ahead Jazz, adopted from the Bebop style of master vocalist, Eddie Jefferson. Steve’s fundamental love and inspiration for Jazz was born by way of a tavern, Jefferson Bar Grill, in Bed-Stuy.
His family lived above this venue. He first heard the sounds of Miles, ‘Trane”, and Nina coming up through the apartment floor. Steve recently recorded a second CD called “All My Tomorrows,” which reached number 26 on the “Jazz Week Top 50 National Airplay Chart.” It can be heard and purchased on his website where most of his appearances will also be noted, www.stevecromity.com.
