Flautist/soprano saxophonist Gabrielle Garo won the Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame’s 2019 Young Lioness Award and also the 2015 International Women in Jazz Youth in Action winner. At the age of twenty-two, the Brooklyn born and raised musician is a candidate for a Master’s Degree in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship from the New School.
Gabrielle has performed with Larry Harlow, Candido Camero, Esperanza Spalding, Christian McBride’s Big Band, Arturo Sandoval, Bobby Sanabria & his Multiverse Big Band, Arturo O’Farrill’s Latin Jazz Orchestra, Kermit Ruffins, and Papo Vazquez to name several.
Ms. Garo performed on the 2020 Grammy Award show with multi-winner Lizzo’s ensemble. She has appeared at the Apollo, and featured in Spike Lee’s Season 2 of “She’s Gotta Have It.” Also, she has performed in the South Florida Dominican Jazz Festival, Minton’s, Symphony Space for “A Night of Afro-Dominican Jazz,” Birdland, SOB’s, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and the Litchfield Jazz Festival-2012.
