History

Founded in 1999, Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium, Inc., is a collective of patrons, entertainment venues, faith-based institutions, community organizations, and musicians. The founders were community activists, educators, and musicians concerned with the preservation of jazz and the culture of Central Brooklyn. CBJC recognizes the contributions of artists and their roles in perpetuating culture while promoting the dignity of a people. We strive to develop programs that are affordable, accessible, and attractive to people of all ages, to keep the culture of jazz music alive and well in underserved communities of Brooklyn. In 2019 a shift was made in our programming to focus on direct service components to our target audience.
